Bon jeu !

  1. It looks intriguing, as if there were a hidden esoteric meaning behind the game -- a path of initiation, like walking a labyrinth. It's a gorgeous illustration.

... I hope there are not too many scallops? Est-ce que j'ai tort? Je ne le comprend vraiment pas...

  2. In fact, there are some connections between the Game of the Goose (I don't know if this game really exists in english-speaking cultures) and the Tarot. They both use the same kind of ancient iconography.
A franch author and specialist in games, Francois Nedelec, wrote some very interesting things about the esoteric meanings of the Jeu de l'oie.
These textes inspired me a lot for my novel "La voie du Cygne". In this one, I establish connections between this game and the mythus of Theseus.
If you want translations and explanations in english, I can provide them, and even do a little post about them.

Regarding the scallops, your translation is right, but "coquille" in this context means "bugs", "errors" (in fact, a coquille is an involontary typographic error. The name comes from the ancient printing industry, and there are many funny stories explaining the use of the name "coquille" for such an error.)
